I am a researcher, writer, editor, and translator focused on the history of information and the politics of historical narrative in the Eastern Mediterranean. I hold a PhD in history and Middle Eastern studies from Harvard University and was a fellow at the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) in Cairo from 2012-13. I am currently a postdoctoral fellow in public humanities and new media at the Jackman Humanities Institute, University of Toronto. With Lydia Harrington, I am also co-founder of the Boston Little Syria Project.

I have published in New Lines Magazine, Jerusalem Quarterly, and Al-Jumhuriya. Listen at Humanities at Large, The Lede, and Ottoman History Podcast, or read a sample of my translation at Asymptote and ArabLit. I’m especially interested in translation projects with a historical bent and creative ways of blending scholarship with fiction, performance, and public engagement.
